“At Knife’s Edge” Live-Performance Screening Coming to Milwaukee!

Filmmaker Michael Melzer and Composer/cellist Carter Dewberry will finally be bringing the silent film “At Knife’s Edge” to the film’s hometown on October 23rd, 2010. The vibes of Halloween will be in the air as the gothic thriller screens at 7:30pm in the Eisner Museum Auditorium (in Milwaukee’s historic Third Ward) with the musical score performed live! Experience the dark and haunting “rags-to-riches tale soaked in blood” told through the medium of silent cinema and illustrating the sensations of Olde Milwaukee. The event is free and open to the public (May not be suitable for children under 13).

Composer/cellist extraordinaire Carter Dewberry has embarked on a multi-faceted performance tour, which will include several performances of the live score alongside “At Knife’s Edge”! Catch the film October 11th at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, October 21st at Greenville High School in Greenville, Michigan, and October 23rd at the Eisner Museum Auditorium in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Saturday, March 13th brought a large crowd to the vintage ambience of the Yost Theater in Santa Ana, California, marking the first live musical performance accompanying “At Knife’s Edge”! The dark tale was told through the style of silent cinema, with an evocative new musical score. Filmmaker Michael Melzer and much of the production’s cast and crew were on hand, celebrating the final incarnation of the nearly four-year project. The private event featured the film’s original score composer Carter Dewberry leading the way on cello, with Robert Harsh on percussion and Eric Stoner on guitar, alongside the projected film. After so much work, the silent film production of “At Knife’s Edge” is fast nearing completion. The trip through a sinister and tragic story will now be seen through the lens of cinema in its earliest form! The stage is set for a dynamic marriage of image and music–and March 13th will mark a final milestone: a private performance of the project at The Yost Theater in Santa Ana, California…

Saturday saw the CD release/concert of Carter Dewberry’s first album “Origins”, at the Yost Theater in downtown Santa Ana. The performance was amazing, and included visual samples of “At Knife’s Edge”, projected behind the musicians, in several songs. The event also featured the premiere performance of music composed for the film. Turnout was high and the musical selections were varied, even incorporating a didgeridoo in one selection!
